    CBD

CBD (short for Cannabidiol) is the non-psychotropic compound found in the Cannabis plant that has various potential therapeutic benefits when it interacts with the human body. CBD plays a vital role in many of the body’s biological responses, including balance in our body’s immune system, communication between cells, appetite, metabolism, memory, sleep and more.

No. Although both CBD and THC are natural compounds found in cannabis plants, their medicinal properties are very different. CBD (Cannabidiol) is a non-psychotropic Cannabinoid compound known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential benefits. THC (Delta 9-Tetrahydrocannabinol) is a psychotropic Cannabinoid compound that has strong analgesic and appetite stimulants . As the psychoactive phytocannabinoid, THC is also known for its euphoric effects.

CBD has minimal side effects. Some reported side effects of Cannabidiol include dry mouth, low blood pressure, light-headedness, and drowsiness, however, these are very uncommon. Signs of liver injury have also been reported in some patients, but this is also very uncommon. Patients with autoimmune disorders or those who suffer from a lot of allergies could have a negative response from the carrier oil or capsule container. In those cases, CBD Isolate (which is 99% pure CBD) would be a better method of trying CBD.

Although CBD itself is non-psychotropic (meaning it won’t make you high), each patient may react to Cannabidiol differently. As there can be variances between CBD Isolate and CBD Full-Spectrum products, we advise you to discuss this with your prescribing Doctor if you are concerned.

CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, which may decrease inflammation which might help to alleviate pain. Additionally CBD is known to work by other pathways to potentially reduce pain. We remind everyone that CBD may not work for every patients pain. Please refer to the TGA website for more information on patient conditions.

Studies are inconclusive surrounding this issue, however, it’s worth keeping in mind that there are several Cannabinoids that are naturally present in breast milk, produced by the body’s own Endocannabinoid system. For more information, please consult your prescribing Doctor.

    Medical Cannabis

Yes. Medical Cannabis can legally be prescribed to a patient by any Medical Practitioner Australia-wide if they deem it to be an appropriate treatment for the patient’s individual circumstances.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is the regulating body responsible for the approval of all Medical Cannabis applications in Australia.

In Australia, access to Medical Cannabis can only be obtained through an Australian registered health practitioner. Individual patients cannot apply to the TGA for approval to access cannabinoid therapies. If you’re considering Medical Cannabis as a treatment option for a chronic condition, the first step is to consult with your Doctor.

Your Doctor will decide if Cannabis medicine is the most suitable treatment for your condition and individual circumstances. If it’s deemed to be an appropriate treatment for you, they can then apply to the TGA for approval on your behalf through the Special Access Scheme (SAS Category A or B), or alternatively apply to become an Authorised Prescriber (AP).

For more information visit the TGA website.
